The Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council is a 501(C)(3) non-profit launched in 1985 by business and community leaders dedicated to supporting law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders in Broward County.

The Advisory Council’s primary mission is to provide financial assistance to the families of Broward County first responders that are killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Over the years, the focus evolved to invest more deeply in those on whom we depend for so much. Working closely with the Broward County Sheriff and Chiefs, the Advisory Council provides funding for state-of-the-art technology and equipment, specialized training, and wellness programs for these dedicated public servants. The Advisory Council is also committed to community and support programs that focus on improving the lives of first responders and their families.

OUR PROGRAMS

Fallen First Responders

First Responders are at the core of the Advisory Council. Since its inception, the Council has been providing funding to families of Broward County First Responders killed or permanently injured while serving in the line of duty. The Crisis Committee is often first-in and last-out for the families of the fallen.

Technology & Equipment

The Advisory Council is one of the few organizations approved to purchase equipment for Broward’s Sheriff’s Office and Public Safety Agencies. Funds regularly purchase equipment and technology that may otherwise be unattainable, and which improve the effectiveness and efficiency in the prevention, identification, and investigation of criminal activity. Council money results in the arrest of perpetrators.

Specialized Training

Advances in technology make it possible for first responders to enhance public safety in unprecedented ways. The Council’s programs provide specialized training for technology that can connect Broward’s first responders to real-time dashboards and criminal databases, and ensure they are prepared to manage natural disasters and combat against terrorist attacks, school violence, and gang warfare.

Community Outreach

The Advisory Council respects the many diverse communities of Broward County and strives to strengthen the cooperative relationship between first responders, residents and visitors. Working closely with public safety agencies, the Council develops programs that promote positive relationships and foster communication, trust, and public safety. The Council is also on the front lines of food drives, scholarships and local relief efforts.
